Charles Spurrier
“Spurrier uses ready-made materials, typically thought of as banal and crass or gaudy and garish, to create intricate and delicate collages. These optically active and seductively engaging works expand and subvert or notions of painting and abstraction. Slyly transversing the passages of late-20th Century art--Pop, Post-minimalism Support-Surface, Pattern and Decoration, and the analytical eclecticism of Post-modernism--he has managed to charter a new territory of the neo-Baroque. From the personal patina of smudged fingerprints to a synthetic sense of the sublime found in the sparkle of glitter, Spurrier is exploring new territory of art and beauty.”
